My first year of college has ended and I am left with overwhelming memories and a stunning sense of pride. I don't know if I should write this for myself or for future employers but here is my honest reflection.
I thought college would be hard. Like, crying before finals and staying up till four a.m., hard.
But it wasn't, at least not in the way I expected. I never cried because of a test, I never stayed up past three ( and that was my own fault), and I never felt overwhelmed. I would sit in my classes, taking notes in different colored pens because I had heard it aided in retention, and I would wait for the bombshell that held the agonizing college experience I had heard of. But it never came.
In the meantime, I made new friends. They are all so different from me but that is what I love about college. You get to be different, you get to be better. Of course, at the end of it all, you realize that you could always be different and that it was within you all along blah-blah-blah. But college is a rare catalyst that can spark embers within people. Since starting college, I do believe that I have become more outgoing, more analytical and thoughtful, more accountable, more passionate, and more myself.
I finished my first year at Drury University. I am proud of myself and all my work and I hope that the years to come will bring more growth and an even deeper understanding of myself and others.
